The game has a mechanic that places colored shields over an enemy, and only the character who matches the color of the shield can break said shield. The gameplay mechanics are both the high point and low point of the game, depending on who you have in your team. The writing is most just 4th wall breaks, puns, and lots and lots of details for things I didn't really care about, so if you're not interested in the game for the plot, just skip through it all or better yet turn it off. The overall plot can be confusing at best and very exposition heavy and dragged out at worst (there is an option to remove the story elements and just have the gameplay, which is nice). The story isn't great, but it does try its best. The backgrounds are gorgeously detailed, especially in the greener areas, showing off just how far pixel graphics can go. The visuals is the best part of this game, with its very well detailed sprites showing off a whole range of animations and expressiveness, even from pretty far away. Full Metal Furies is a pretty fun but at a lot of points annoying action RPG, with a lot of grinding and some downright teeth-grinding bosses.
